Half a century is a long time for any business… but especially in an industry that changes as rapidly as hair and beauty. Blakes finally got to hold their celebrations last night and, judging by the turnout, this salon clearly means a huge amount to the people of Carlow and beyond. The place was packed as clients, friends, former staff and familiar faces all came together to mark the 50th milestone. There was also a lovely acknowledgement throughout the evening of the foundations laid by original owners John and Mary, who first built Blakes into such a well-known and trusted name over the decades. A huge part of that success is also down to the incredible team, past and present, who have helped create the welcoming atmosphere and loyal client base the salon is known for. When people are still walking through the same doors week after week, decades later, you’re clearly doing something right. What a milestone for Blakes, for Ruth and her team, and for the centre itself.

Blakes Hairsalon has been part of Carlow for a long time, and we’re lucky to have them here at Fairgreen. They are approaching 50 years in business this May, with Ruth leading the salon today after 24 years on the floor herself. It’s a team full of experience (some of them there over 30 years) and it shows in how they look after their clients. There’s a great mix of familiar faces and new customers coming through the doors all the time.... They’ve recently picked up awards for extensions and are heading into colour competitions this year, which is a great reflection of the standard they keep. A genuinely strong business, run by a team who care about what they do, and a great part of Fairgreen.
